Matcha 1.12.1 Alpha update
What the active upstream Alpha port changes, what remains experimental, and how existing progress is preserved.
Now active on the server
Matcha Flavoured SMP now runs a plugin-only port of the Matcha Flavoured 1.12.1 Alpha. The original changes come from klei_wright and his team; the server adapts them for multiplayer, profiles, existing inventories, and persistent worlds.
Alpha means the feature is active and tested here, but its balance or details may change before the datapack author's stable release.
Main additions
- Progression-based death floors, revised Crystal Heart behavior, and corrected Hardcore heart graphics.
- New foods and ingredients, vegetarian meal variants, and revised food-effect balance.
- The Steel Claymore, revised alloy equipment, Fortune II outside Electrum, armor set bonuses, and automatic upgrades for recognized old gear.
- The Angler's Almanac, catch sounds, revised fish trades, and refreshed fishing treasure and junk.
- Updated creature drops, structure loot, villager trades, recipes, Recipe Book unlocks, and crafting routes.
- Revised Abbey inhabitants, tower loot, ambience, Copper Eye puzzles, and Warding Stone restrictions.
- Targeted new world features: deep-desert Coal deposits, high-altitude Nether Quartz, Hellspore generation, and small flower patches on beaches.
- Crete, Malachite, Abbey, and Elegy of the Abbey music, alongside updated Golden disc crafting.
- Updated artwork, interface assets, biome colors, jewelry, equipment, food, music, and 26 translated languages.
Existing progress is preserved
Inventories, Ender Chests, Shulker Boxes, shop stock, profiles, personalized loot records, advancements, Recipe Book discoveries, and existing villager offers are preserved.
Recognized old equipment upgrades when encountered while retaining names, trims, enchantments, custom properties, stack count, Shulker contents, and remaining durability. Existing Obol sources also remain under the server's established multiplayer balance.
Still experimental

- New food recipes and food-effect balance.
- Alloy, Fortune, Obsidian-mining, and armor-set balance.
- Almanac progression and revised fishing pools.
- Refreshed loot and villager trade balance.
- Abbey loot, music, and Warding Stone restrictions.
- New biome features and ore distribution.
